AdBlue Solutions

From October 1st 2006 new Euro 4 Emissions legislation came into effect for all new trucks and buses over 3.5 tonnes G.V.W. in EU member countries. Most truck manufacturers have developed Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology which requires AdBlue® to lower particulate emissions and achieve Euro 4 and Euro 5 Engine standards.

Running a Euro 4 vehicle means emissions will be reduced on average by around 50 percent compared with Euro 3. In the case of particulates, the reduction is even greater at 80 percent; particulate emissions are now on a level with the so-called EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicles). Modern trucks are making a significant contribution to the reduction in pollutants. This has been made possible thanks to new SCR technology using AdBlue®.

This means that, by the time Euro 5 is implemented in 2009, pollutants in the exhaust from commercial vehicle diesel engines will have fallen by between 86 and 98 percent since the first standard called Euro 0, came into force in 1990.

What is AdBlue® ?

AdBlue® is an aqueous urea solution which is injected in a specific way into the SCR catalytic converter. In a preliminary reaction stage in an NOX catalytic converter using SCR technology, the AdBlue ® injected into the exhaust system is first converted into ammonia. In the subsequent catalytic reduction phase, the NOX  with the help of the ammonia is largely broken down into nitrogen and water. AdBlue ® is able to reduce nitrogen oxides drastically and enables both Euro 4 and the future Euro 5 standards to be met.

AdBlue must meet the highest standard

AdBlue must meet the DIN 70 070 industry standard. This quality standard has been linked to the AdBlue brand name. Only the right quality product - the quality permitted by truck manufacturers - is allowed to carry the AdBlue name under licence agreements through The VDA - Directory of the Automotive Industry http://www.vda.de

Maintaining proper product quality remains a condition of use as AdBlue which does not have this quality assurance could carry contaminants which will seriously damage the catalyst in the SCR system on your vehicle and breach the conditions of your warranty. Integrity must be maintained throughout: from the logistics chain through to the filling system designed especially for AdBlue with a view to maintaining its quality and convenience. It must be stressed that if you do not use the appropriate way to get it into your vehicles you could find yourself with expensive problems .

How much does AdBlue cost?

The price per litre depends upon the delivery method and quantity. Bulk supply agreements for anticipated larger scale users will be the most cost effective method. Send details of your fleet size and we will let you know the current cost for the best AdBlue delivery solution for you.

You will save money as using AdBlue and SCR technology means in addition to lower emissions, Euro 4/5 engines will be tuned to offer better fuel consumption and you benefit from lower vehicle running costs of around 4% for Euro 4.

Ordering AdBlue®

Filling options for AdBlue:

• Tanker deliveries of AdBlue into bulk storage tanks for medium / large size fleets  - various sizes available from 2500 to 30,000 litres, above and below ground tanks.

• IBC’s in 1,000 litres sizes - the most popular option if you have up to around 15 vehicles needing AdBlue. You will need to buy a special AdBlue pump system and simply swap the IBC when empty.

• Barrels containing 210 litres - small pump systems complete with small hose & nozzle available for dispensing. Optional drum trolley available.

• Cans containing 10 litres for topping up.

• In North West England  some larger truck stops  have AdBlue available through their pumps on Fuel Cards, but it will not generally be available on forecourts.
